EVALUATIONS

At Somos, we are committed to maintaining the integrity of each level in our dance program. That’s why we have a structured evaluation process — to ensure that every student placed in a level is truly ready for the material and expectations at that stage. Evaluations take place at the end of each six-month season and help us provide thoughtful feedback while supporting each dancer’s individual growth. This approach allows students to build strong fundamentals, progress with confidence, and ensures that classes remain cohesive and productive for everyone involved.

Evaluations can be completely skipped by simply asking Tom if you are ready for the next level.

Evaluation Details

  1. Evaluations would be performed on all Saturdays in June between 11am and 1pm. Click this link to sign up.

  2. Evaluations would be conducted using these rubrics. Please review these thoroughly prior to testing.

  3. Evaluations for Salsa Level 3 ->Level 4 should be set up with Tom individually.

  4. Evaluations will be done in a group setting. Each evaluation session will be recorded to ensure proper evaluation of individuals in post examination.

  5. Follows don't need to know the leads footwork and vice versa. However, follows and leads are going to need to be able to display a knowledge of the timing (basic) of both roles.

  6. Names of each move is an important part of the Somos program and system. We require that each testee knows the names of the moves. With that being said, there is some grace regarding this at the discretion of the tester (especially with students joining from other academies).

  7. Solo work and partnerwork will both be tested.

  8. We suggest that students sign up with a partner that is also testing for that level. This is not required but recommended.

  9. Students in a practice group can all sign up together. This is also not required but recommended.

  10. Anyone that cannot make it to the listed times in the form can request a separate evaluation day and time. There will be a separate fee for this specialized evaluation. This would be a flat fee and so getting a group together for this would be most cost-effective.
